Los Angeles is the home front of celebrity culture, and the mecca of plastic Hollywood glamour, and we’re worshipped for it. Maybe that’s exactly why when it comes to obtaining the acceptance of the mainstream, high-fashion industry, no one wants to take us seriously. According to a recent BOF article, LA Fashion Week may not be a “thing” yet, or have quite the magnitude of the over-saturated New York Fashion Week, but it’s only a matter of time before Los Angeles doesn’t only catch up, but laps our cross-country competitor.

In less than two years, A giant Urban Outfitters took over the Rialto theatre on Broadway in downtown, and the Swedish house of famed minimalism and luxury, Acne Studios, moved in below Johnny Depp in the infamous Eastern Building. Tom Ford showed his FW15 show at Milk Studios in Los Angeles this year, and Burberry held their private, celebrity-filled show in April at the Griffith Observatory, overlooking the Hollywood lights. This weekend, in the old bank district, two designers and the most random successor in hip-hop, Post Malone, held a private pow-wow in the Reserve, an underground bank-turned-club. After a streamlined womenswear show, a debut for designer Herbio Brown, of the The Academy of Couture Art and a mens streetwear-geared show by Dunyah, Post Malone gave us a surprise, intimate performance of “White Iverson” and I think it’s safe to say we all have a tiny-crush on the dude’s endearing beard and golden smile. Okay, maybe that’s just me.
