Rumored never-nude Donald Trump just took his insane rhetoric to a new level by suggesting that “second-amendment people” — a.k.a. gun nuts — are the only ones who could do something about Hillary Clinton’s potential Supreme Court Justice picks.

Trump made the remarks at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. Here’s what he said:

“By the way, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Translation: if Hillary Clinton appoints liberal Supreme Court Justices, there is nothing to do but shoot them and/or her.

Trump’s campaign is kinda sorta denying the assassination implications, having released an even more batshit statement. They decided to imply that Trump was actually referring to gun nuts’ incredible team spirit — not the fact that they own deadly weapons.

Wow.

Trump supporters are apparently trying to pass this off as a joke and it probably won’t put a dent in his follower base. They’ve already largely decided they don’t care about Trump insulting the parents of a dead veteran, so this will just be another amusing remark to them.

I’ll be the first to admit I sometimes find Trump funny and I think people are too easily offended, but this is another level of insane. It’s not a funny or interesting thing to say. It seems like it was designed just to rile people up. I understand a big part of public speaking is getting the crowd on your side and that’s why Trump’s made it this far. But do we really want a president who relies on assassination “jokes” to amp up the crowd?

Let’s stick to the tittie-laden Freudian slips, Donald.
